🚧 UPDATE 1/14/26 🚧
Repairs Continue...
The Lap Pool at the YMCA & Yakima Rotary Aquatic Center will remain out of service through the rest of this week following the unexpected and unpreventable mechanical failure. We are hopeful to share another update on Monday, once we have more information on part arrivals and repair progress. In the meantime, Rock N Roll with Mo on 1/15/26 and Hydro Pump with Christa on 1/17/26 have been cancelled.
The closure is due to a rare failure within the lap pool’s circulation system. An eight-inch steel butterfly valve housed inside an enclosed pipe sheared off, sending a large piece of metal into the pool pump impeller. The impeller—similar to a metal fan—was struck under high pressure, causing significant internal damage.
A replacement butterfly valve was ordered immediately, and sourcing the impeller, shaft, and other components is ongoing. This is highly specialized, commercial aquatics equipment produced in limited quantities. The pump is German-made and must be sourced through a licensed U.S. distributor or directly from Germany. We were able to locate the required pump and parts in Texas; however, we do not yet have a confirmed delivery timeline. Our local pump experts have completed all preliminary work possible and are ready to complete repairs as soon as all parts arrive.
During this time, members with Aquatic memberships are welcome to continue using the rest of the facility, including fitness areas and amenities outside of the Aquatic Center. If you are on a month-to-month membership and would like to place your membership on hold, you may do so for up to three months by visiting the Front Desk, where staff will be happy to assist you.
We understand how disruptive this closure has been and sincerely appreciate the patience and understanding of our members and community. Thank you for your continued support as we work toward restoring full lap pool operations.
🏗️UPDATE 1/9/26 🏗️
We’d like to provide an update regarding the Lap Pool closure at the YMCA & Yakima Rotary Aquatic Center. Our team has identified the parts needed to repair the lap pool circulation pump, and those parts have now been ordered from multiple suppliers within the United States. At this time, we do not have a confirmed arrival date for the parts.
As a result, the Lap Pool will remain closed into early next week. Our maintenance team continues to coordinate closely with vendors to complete the repair as quickly and safely as possible once parts arrive. We plan to share our next update Tuesday or Wednesday, when we hope to have more information on timing.
Please note that due to the ongoing closure, Christa’s Hydro Pump class is cancelled this Saturday.
We understand this has been a frustrating disruption, and we sincerely appreciate the patience and understanding shown by our members and community. Thank you for bearing with us as we work to restore full lap pool operations.
🚧 UPDATE 1/5/26 🚧
The Lap Pool at the YMCA & Yakima Rotary Aquatic Center will remain closed. We know this is frustrating, especially without a firm reopening date, and we truly appreciate everyone’s patience.
The closure is due to an unexpected mechanical failure involving a butterfly valve breaking inside the lap pool circulation pump. Our maintenance team has been actively working with multiple companies, including through the holidays, and the pump will be lifted out of the pool pit tomorrow (approximately 10 feet below deck level) so internal components can be inspected, repaired, and the valve replaced.
Because of this, the Lap Pool remains closed, and Rock n Roll with Mo (Tuesday & Thursday) is cancelled. We’ll plan to share another update on Thursday as we learn more.
The steam room also remains closed while we work with a vendor to correct an issue with a temperature sensor.
Thank you for your continued understanding as our team works to resolve these issues safely and thoroughly. We’ll keep you informed as updates become available.
